Our Independent Visitor Service is looking for volunteers in or around Muxton to carry out this fulfilling role. You do not need experience of working with children and young people, just an interest in their development and welfare.
Are you passionate about wanting to help young people?
Do you have 2 to 4 hours to spare, once a month?
If the answer is yes and you would like to support a child or young person currently in the care of their local authority, then we would love to hear from you.
We are looking for fun, reliable, and enthusiastic volunteers from all backgrounds and experiences who have a genuine interest in making a difference.
You will meet with your matched young person once a month and decide together what to do. Activities could include bowling, playing football, going to a restaurant, riding a bike, or visiting a park.
You will help to build a positive and trusting relationship with the young person, and provide them with a listening ear, a voice of encouragement, and a role model they can look up to.
We will match you with a child you share common interests with.
Full training and support are provided as well as travel and activity expenses.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with young people. Empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental attitude towards young people who have experienced challenging circumstances. Good organisational skills, with the ability to manage your time effectively and keep accurate records. A commitment to the welfare and protection of young people, and a willingness to undergo appropriate training and supervision. Previous experience of working with young people is desirable, but not essential.
