Witness Service Volunteer

Suitable for -

Opportunity Description

The Witness Service provides practical and emotional support and information to witnesses, so that they feel valued, respected and informed and able to give their best evidence in court.

The role is based both at the court and in the community. You will begin your volunteering with us supporting witnesses, and their supporters, at the court. This will involve explaining the court procedures and legal terminology, showing them around the courtroom before trials, and sitting in the courtroom with them, when permitted.

Once fully trained supporting at court, you will be able to progress, with further training, to supporting the most vulnerable witnesses as part of our Outreach service. This will involve meeting the witness in a community setting prior to the trial to develop a plan of preparation and support, accompanying the witness on the day of the trial and offering post-trial support including signposting to other organisations when needed.
