Volunteer Telford

Telford Together with Refugees is a volunteer-led small charity.  Established in January 2025, we organise our offer into 7 pillars of activity: Help with Basics, Opportunity to Learn, Access to Exercise, Wellbeing Activities, Advice and Information, Help in a Crisis, and Generating Resources.

We have a range of volunteer opportunities supporting our work with people new into our local community, specifically those who are seeking asylum or are refugees. 

If you have time to offer, we will seek to utilise that by matching you to a role that will make a difference and prove rewarding to you too. 

This could be through befriending, learning activities and English classes, sport and exercise, fundraising events, donations management, charity administration, volunteer recruitment or another activity that suits your talents and interests.

We are a Christian charity that collects unwanted usable tools, refurbishes them, sorts them into trade tool kits and sends them to the developing world for livelihood creation.

Tool Ambassador Volunteers

The main role of a Tool Ambassador is to be our first contact in their local community. Our Tool Ambassadors are the people that members of the public contact to donate tools.

Our Tool Ambassadors collect the donated tools, load them into boxes (easy to get from supermarkets), and store them ready for one of our vans to collect. They then arrange with their local Van Manager for them to be collected by a TWAM van

What are we looking for?

Tool Ambassadors need to be enthusiastic about what we do and the transforming power of tools. Many people donating tools do so following bereavement, so we need sensitive people willing to stop and talk, rather than rush off. In others words, kind and friendly people!

What will you be do?

Members of the public will contact you via email or phone.

We will give you a TWAM email that goes on our website and will only give out your phone number to people who ring our office (because they may not use email).

You can then arrange to either pick the tools up from them, or have them dropped off at your house, whichever you prefer.

You will then need to store them until the TWAM van comes to you to collect them. This can either be on a rota basis, or when you ring  your named Van Manager to ask for a collection.

Many collectors also promote themselves in local magazines and notice boards.

What difference will you make?

This is an incredibly rewarding role as you get to meet the general public and share with our story with them. Many are so grateful that we are taking their tools rather than seeing them go to landfill. You’ll get a real buzz from many of the collections.

Volunteer benefits

You’ll be joining a great team and will enjoy the visits from the TWAM Van Teams and the invitations to volunteer days. You will also receive a TWAM polo-shirt and fleece.

Be the key contact for fundraising in your local community to raise money from a variety of activities such as collections, social events and tea parties.

The Fundraising Group Coordinator is responsible for coordinating a group of volunteers to raise funds through events or other activities, delegating tasks to other members of the group as required and being the key contact in the local area.

What you will do

- Organising and attending events such as the Great Guide Dogs Tea Party, Pub Quizzes and collections in your local area

- Encouraging local businesses, schools and groups to name their own guide dog puppy

- Building relationships with local networks, socials groups, schools and businesses to encourage them to host their own event in support of Guide Dogs

- Working as part of Guide Dogs’ fundraising team with staff and volunteers

- Liaising with Community Fundraiser informing them of events in your area

- Making sure your fundraising policies and procedures are followed

- Being a passionate local ambassador for Guide Dogs’ work

- Ensuring that any information provided by Guide Dogs is cascaded to relevant supporters or volunteers

- Ensuring income raised from events is banked in a timely manner

Topics might include mental health, substance misuse, anxiety, first aid, professional boundaries etc.
