Volunteer Telford

What you will do:

Delivering hot meals to the vulnerable within Donnington and surrounding areas

Time commitment:

1 to 3 times a week

Monday to Friday between the hours from 11.30am to 12.30pm

Support:

The volunteer will be supported by Rose (Catering manager) and Shirley (chef)

The volunteer will not be responsible for any other members of staff

Local homelessness organisations Stay, Maninplace, Kip and YMCA are looking for flexible people who just want to help in general, wouldn't mind being an extra pairs of hands and willing to take on a variety of tasks.

This could involve being an extra pair of hands during group sessions and helping out with the associated tasks. This also could include making drinks, handing out materials, helping clients, setting up and clearing away the activities etc.

Trustees are required to join the existing Forum Management Committee responsible for the overall governance of the charity, which supports people over 50. They help to design services and evaluate delivery and there's an opportunity to get more involved.

Aged over 50. Must be available for most board meetings and some events, and have an interest in older people's issues and commitment to the aims of the charity. Volunteers need to be able to commit for a minimum of one year.

Telford & Wrekin Council is advertising for more volunteers to join the Independent Appeal Panel dealing with primary and secondary school admissions and exclusion reviews. It is a requirement that the Local Authority’s School Admission Authority provides arrangements for appeals against decisions not to allow a child to attend a school or regarding a decision to exclude a child from a school within Telford and Wrekin.

The role

Admission panels comprise of three members to hear and determine appeals by parents who are not happy with the decision made about their child’s school placement. The panel is independent of the education authority and draws on a pool of lay and independent members to sit on particular appeals. This is an essential role that provides impartiality of decisions for parents and children in Telford and Wrekin.

Membership of the panel comprises of:

- People who have experience in education, who are acquainted with educational conditions in the local authority area, or who are parents of registered pupils in school. This can include current or previous head teachers, teachers, governors or parents

- Lay people, someone without personal experience in the management of any school or provision of education in any school except as a school governor or in another voluntary capacity.
