Foster Care Volunteer Drivers
Suitable for -
We are looking for experienced drivers to volunteer to support some of our foster carers with school runs and visits. Not all of our foster carers drive or they foster multiple children who attend different schools making the school run a difficult task to manage.
We are looking for committed individuals with a passion to support local children and families.
Our aim is that each volunteer would support one foster carer becoming a consistent friendly face for a child or children and building a relationship of trust with them.
We are looking for volunteers with a passion to support children, who have access to a car and a full driving licence. You must be available between 07:00 – 09:00 and 14:30 - 16:00. There is also potential for some evening journeys.
We are looking for volunteers for this role who are caring, enthusiastic and have a flexible approach to children and young people. We are looking for people who demonstrate a commitment to supporting children and families.
To be successful, you must
- Be able to communicate effectively and with confidence with children and adults.
- Be willing to travel to agreed locations in the Telford area.
- Have a full UK driving licence, ideally clean but no more than six penalty points.
- Possess good local road knowledge or have access to a navigational tool or app.
- Have your own vehicle with current MOT, insurance and tax.
- Millage will be reimbursed
There will be an initial induction event where we will be able to provide further information about the role and answer any questions before you apply.
We will provide training and supervision to our volunteers. In addition to taking a compulsory driving for work course, volunteers will also receive, as part of a full induction, child protection training and paediatric first aid training.
The application process will include a practical driving assessment at interview stage and further practical driving training for successful applicants.
We know that people give their time for many different reasons and that their availability varies, so we support our volunteers to give as much time or as little as they can. As a minimum, we would expect you to be able to give between 1-8 hours per week.
We would like to develop a regular driver for a carer so you could be doing every morning or both morning and afternoon school run. Alternatively, you could be completing a one off drive.
The time commitment will be dependent on your client needs matched with your availability. We appreciate that you have to balance your work as a ‘Foster Care Volunteer Driver’ with other commitments and we know that unexpected events occur.
If you are unable to make a school run, please let the volunteer coordinator know as soon as possible and if your circumstances change such that you are unable to continue in the role, then please let us know as soon as possible so that we can find a replacement.
Please note this is a new project so we will be asking for feedback from each of our volunteers about all aspects of the role.
Before appointment, all candidates will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.
COVID measures, Please note that at this time we are recruiting volunteers with the idea that we can get successful volunteers through recruitment and training for when the National Lockdown has been removed and guidance supports the use of volunteers in a confined space. The safety of our Volunteers and all of our Community is our top priority.
