The role involves visiting people, over 50, at home or meeting with them at another location, to provide company and help for them to build confidence in getting out and about. Visiting at home can include accompanying people on short trips to the shops, cafe, or for a walk but this is not compulsory.
Good listening and communication skills. Understanding of the needs of older people in the community. Patience and sensitivity. Understanding of confidentiality. Reliability to keep to agreed times but flexibility when needed.
Visits are approx. one hour, weekly or fortnightly, time commitment dependent on number of clients. Mileage expenses paid.
