Our event crew play an essential part in making sure our events and activities run smoothly and that all participants and supporters have fantastic experiences.

You can get stuck in setting up and stewarding events like the iconic Dragon Boat Festival, dramatic Fire and Ice Challenge and the poignant Lights of Love service – all of which help us generate vital funds to support our care services.

There are so many exciting opportunities to get involved from welcoming and registering participants, car parking, marshalling a route to handing out medals or running a merchandise stall.

It’s also a brilliant way to volunteer on an ad-hoc basis and can fit around busy lives.

AFC Telford is looking to recruit more volunteers to help on match days at the Telford Ground.

Would you like to be part of a friendly team of volunteers, and can you spare a few hours on Saturdays and sometimes during the week, for home games only?

Not every game requires a full turnstile crew and there are occasions when we need people to cover illness etc. for our regular staff; if you can’t commit to every game don’t worry, once we have a full team, others can cover you once in a while so we can be flexible.

Are you the right person for the role?

AFC Turnstile Operators

The role is very simple – you are based in the turnstiles, provided with a scanner on a mobile phone, and all we ask is that you use the camera function (which is linked to the relevant ticket checking software) to check tickets as fans arrive – it is that easy!

You would be required from 13.30 to 15.15 on Saturdays and 18.15 to 20.00 for mid-week games when we play at home.

The bonus is that if you wish to stay and enjoy the game when your turnstile closes, you get free entry - or if you prefer to go home that is fine too.

Purpose of the role:

To support families with children aged 0–5 by helping to deliver welcoming, inclusive, and engaging play sessions within Family Hubs across Telford & Wrekin. Focusing on encouraging positive interaction through play, supporting early child development, and creating a safe, supportive space where families can connect, learn, and build confidence together.

What is a Playing Together Group?

Playing Together sessions offer a safe, friendly space where children can explore, play and grow. With a wide range of toys, creative crafts and engaging activities, little ones can develop their skills while having fun. It’s also a great opportunity for parents and carers to connect and build friendships.

Volunteer Responsibilities:

Support and facilitate play sessions for children aged 0–5 and their parents/carers.

Encourage active participation in play and learning activities that support early development.

Welcome families warmly and help build positive, trusting relationships with parents/carers and children.

Provide gentle guidance and reassurance to parents/carers on engaging with their children through play.

Help set up and tidy the venue before and after sessions, ensuring the environment is safe, clean, and inviting.

Promote inclusive, respectful, and positive interactions among all families attending the group.

Observe children during sessions and share any concerns about development or wellbeing with appropriate staff, following safeguarding procedures.

Does this role require a DBS?

Yes – Enhanced DBS required.

Supervision:

You will receive ongoing support via regular catchups and supervisions with the Volunteer Coordinator.

Training:

All volunteers receive safeguarding and role-specific training. Additional shadowing and ongoing development opportunities are provided.

Time Commitment:

Commitment of 2 hours per week based around session times and volunteer availability.

Playing Together Groups run on:

Mondays – 9.30am-11am at Damson Family Hub, Donnington

Tuesdays – 10am-11.30am at Neighbourhood Centre, Hollinswood

Tuesdays – 1pm-2.30pm at Silver Birch Family Hub, Sutton Hill

Fridays – 1pm-2.30pm at Park Lane Centre, Woodside

Location:

Community-based Family Hub venues across Telford & Wrekin (as above).

Why we need your help:

We need your help to raise awareness for our donor register drives.  You will research and book venues to host a donor drive.  From high streets to shopping centres, supermarkets to newsagents, community fairs to school fetes; the more bookings you make, the more opportunities we will have to ensure the public know about the work we do and how they can support us.

What we need you to do:

- Book sites in targeted locations.

- Research new opportunities and initiate relationships with site decision-makers.

- Book depots to use on the day of donor drive.

- Seek opportunities for adding value, such as organising entertainment, refreshments and car-parking for volunteers.

- Carry out administration associated with bookings, including sending confirmation letters and updating the database.

- Seek opportunities in shops and other businesses and secure other opportunities to promote the charity’s events in line with the objectives of the Community Engagement team.
