Opportunity Description

The Happy Healthy & Active Holidays programme has been supported through a grant from the Department of Education to support the provision of holiday club activities and information for children 5 – 16 years, on income related Free School Meals to enjoy a happy healthy holiday. 

The programme will offer free holiday clubs that include a healthy nutritious meal, physical and enriching activities. 

To support the programme there are 3 volunteer roles, you can just do one role or you might have skills in all the different areas, so you can combine your skills to do different roles at different venues. 

 

Physical activity volunteer:

Physical activities: activities which meet the Physical Activity Guidelineson a daily basis. Holiday Club will need to ensure that children take part in 60 minutes of physical activity per session. These activities will see children breathing faster and feeling warmer.

- You will be supporting a wide range of physical activities such as football, tennis, cricket, yoga, dance etc.  

- Developing your own activity 

- Setting up the activity  

- Organising and supporting the young people at the activity 

- Reporting any issue’s to Activity coordinator 

 

Health and wellbeing volunteer:

Enriching activities: fun and enriching activities that provide children with opportunities to develop new skills or knowledge, to consolidate existing skills and knowledge, or to try out new experiences. 

- You will be supporting a wide range of activities that support Health and Wellbeing, such as healthy eating, food preparation, cooking, arts & crafts, nature, dance, drama etc. 

- Setting up the activity  

- Organising and supporting the young people at the activity 

- Reporting any issue’s to Activity coordinator 

 

Catering volunteer 

Healthy nutritious meals: Holiday clubs are required to provide at least one meal a day and all food must meet school food standards.  

- You will be supporting the set up and delivery of meals for the young people 

- Setting up dining area 

- Preparation of the meals  

- Helping to ensure that dietary needs are catered for 

- Delivery of the meals to the young people 

- Clearing the dining area 

- Food hygiene 

- Reporting any issue’s to Activity coordinator 

Requirements

An interest in the health and wellbeing of others Good at talking and listening (communication) Good organisational skills Able to empower and motivate others Ability to talk to people of different back grounds and ages Confidence to start conversations Creative thinking Confidentiality awareness (not discussing individuals with others) Enthusiastic about encouraging children & young people’s physical and emotional wellbeing. Enjoy engaging with children, young people and their families in a fun and relaxed way

Time:

4 hours each session, Mon – Fri 

In school holidays, starting in the summer holidays July 2021 

You can do as many sessions as you wish and we are flexible to your availability. 

DBS:

You will require a DBS check before starting your volunteering. We will do this for you and there is no cost.

Location:

Various locations across Telford and Wrekin borough  

Training:

You will need to have access to the internet to be able to complete the online mandatory training.
