Oxfam Wellington is recruiting! Located at 2a Duke Street, we are looking for shop volunteers to join our amazing team led by Shop Manager Sarah Pember.

Oxfam retail volunteers make a real impact every shift and help us work towards a world where everyone has the power to thrive not just survive.

Our shops sell donated items to raise funds for Oxfam's work, as well as reducing waste by giving items a second life.

As a Weekend Sales Assistant Volunteer, you will be at the till during our busiest opening times, serving customers as the friendly face of your shop.

You’ll develop skills that boost your confidence, improving your communication skills serving customers on the till and handling cash and card payments.

Meeting Point House is owned by Meeting Point Trust Ltd, an independent registered charity.

Meeting Point House supports 12 local charities with office accommodation, provides meeting rooms with a capacity of 2 - 100 and is also home to the Hummingbird cafe.

We are looking to strengthen our Board by adding additional Trustees.  Applications are open to all, however, we would be very interested to meet anybody that has a background working within finance or has experience within the voluntary or charitable sector.

What you will be doing:

As a Trustee you will help develop and set the strategic aims, objectives, and direction of the charity. The skills and knowledge you bring will enhance the Board and support the Trust.

Trustees can be active in the business and delivery of events.  They can participate in the daily activities that take place inside Meeting Point House, such as assisting in the Hummingbird Café, being a friendly, welcoming face at reception, lending a helpful hand in our maintenance department or helping with admin tasks.  Likewise Trustees can play a more strategic and guiding role.  All have something to offer the Trust.

Our Board of Trustees meet formally 4 times a year.  Meetings take place on a midweek day, either mornings or afternoons and last for approximately 60 - 90 minutes. 

The daily operation of Meeting Point House falls under our CEO and the team who welcome any additional involvement/input from the Trustee's.

In return we offer a range of training courses ranging from Food Safety, Compliance, First Aid and Safeguarding to name but a few.

Activity Assistant.  We hold a regular Youth Club for any young carers who want to come, on alternate Wednesday evenings (5-7pm) for different age carers (one week primary school age, the following week secondary school age). 

If you're over 16 you can support our younger group and if you're 18+ you can support both groups.  You'll work in within our team of staff and other volunteers, preparing and taking part in activities (games, crafts, lego, computer games, sports etc). 

We also provide a filling meal so you might be on kitchen duty some weeks! You'll play alongside the children, making sure they have lots of fun, and also be a listening ear if they have any worries they want to talk about. 

Join our fun-loving team and we'll pay you for any travel or other expenses and you'll receive training and ongoing support.

What will I do as a Sported volunteer?

You'll use your professional skills and lived experience to help groups overcome operational challenges, become better equipped for the future, and tackle inequality in sport. 

Most of our roles are quite flexible and work around your schedule. We do our best to only share opportunities we think are relevant to you. With most of our volunteering support being delivered digitally, it’s even easier to get started supporting members across our network.

Travel expenses in line with our policy are covered in the instances in-person meetings occur.

Our roles include:

Short-term placements - Focused on one topic area or specific challenge, placements usually last about 6 sessions.

Long-term placements – Placements span a series of months and encompass multiple topics, or a single complex subject.

One-off support – Kickstarts are semi-structured, informal chats to learn more about a group’s strengths and challenges, and recommend a course of action.

Specific project work, facilitating/delivering webinars and training, or supporting Sported itself plus much more!
