Telford and Wrekin Council offer an activity volunteer programme for their Care Leavers. The programme’s aim is to develop individuals and group participation, increase wellbeing, team building skills, motivation and social inclusion.
This role will be to support the Participation Officer in the delivery of the leaving care team participation activities and events.
Responsibilities would include assisting the Participation Officer to manage group dynamics, engage with the young people and participate in a range of participation workshops and activities.
For this role, volunteers will need to be caring enthusiastic, and have a flexible approach with young people who at times can be challenging. They will need good listening and communication skills and a commitment to supporting children and young people. Have a willingness and enthusiasm to participate outdoor and sporting activities and getting stuck in alongside the young person is vital.
All of our volunteers undertake volunteer essential training including safeguarding training which allows us to safeguard the children, young people and adults we support as well as protecting the volunteers themselves.
We provide supervision to our volunteers, which includes reflective practice. This allows volunteers to develop their own skills and strengths, whilst ensuring they are well equipped and supported to undertake their role.
Volunteers will be supported by the Participation Lead and Volunteer Coordinator through regular catch ups and supervisions.
