Volunteer Telford

As a Secretary, you will be responsible for sending invites to our members for events (excluding Management Meetings), being the first point of contact for the charity, assisting other volunteers and the trustee’s with any tasks that may need completing, and to represent the charity at events, meetings etc. These tasks will not be made difficult for the post holder in anyway, and support is always available to all our volunteers when needed.

Necessary volunteer expenses available. Please note that we don’t have our own premises, so all our volunteers work from home. However, you will receive support from experienced volunteers and main point of contacts within the charity.

In return we can give you a reference if you’re looking for paid work. If you are passionate about helping people of all ages with a disability and/or carers, then you will find this role very rewarding.

We are looking for fun, reliable, and enthusiastic volunteers from all different cultures, backgrounds, and experiences.  

Children and young people who are looked after need an adult who has time to spend with them, take them on activities and be someone they can talk to and trust.  You can fit your visits in around your own time and work commitments.                                                                                  

As part of the recruitment process you will need to complete an application form, interview, enhanced DBS check, references and digital risk assessment. 

We offer a full support package including induction training, online mandatory training and one to one support by your IV Coordinator throughout your volunteer journey.

Telford & Wrekin Libraries offer a Home Library Service for customers who are unable to visit the library due to old age or disability, including carers. As well as those who are unable to leave their home during the pandemic due to shielding. In addition to regularly delivering and returning library materials, volunteers are encouraged to talk to customers about their reading and liaise with library staff about what the customer would like next time.

The role of the Home Library Service Volunteer is to speak to each of the customer’s assigned to them over the phone prior to visiting and arrange when to exchange books on the doorstep of their own homes or sheltered accommodation on a three weekly basis.

Volunteers must adhere to social distancing measures at all times and not enter the customer’s home.

What you will need to do:

To operate alongside library staff and other volunteers, taking library materials to people on the doorsteps of their own homes or sheltered accommodation as appropriate on a three weekly basis.

Liaise with Library staff and customers communicating delivery routines and times.

To liaise with library staff or other volunteers to communicate customers’ comments and requests.

To talk with customers over the phone or on the doorstep about their reading and listening needs.

To take responsibility for your own safety and to conform with Health and Safety Guidelines in a library setting.

To report any concern to the Volunteer Co-ordinator, or your supervisor.

To adhere to the Volunteer Guidelines, and Volunteer Policy as per the local Government guidelines regarding Covid-19 at any given time..

To comply with the Quality Standards of Telford & Wrekin Libraries.
