Volunteer Telford

Our belief that ‘Horses make a difference’ underpins all that we do.

It is a testament to the entire Cavalier Centre community of volunteers, staff, trustees, participants and supporters that the Centre continues to grow and develop, despite a few difficult years.

Our ambition is to improve even more lives through activities based around our incredible team of horses and ponies, increase our work with volunteers, partners and supporters to benefit the community and become a centre of excellence for wellbeing and equestrianism to be enjoyed by all.

Cleaning Volunteer

Responsibilities

The role of a Cleaning Volunteer is to undertake various tasks to keep the Centre clean and tidy. The volunteer may work on their own or as part of a small team. Typical tasks might include:

Mopping

Hoovering

Disinfecting touch points

Dusting

Cleaning kitchen

Cleaning toilet facilities

Support & Training

All volunteers undergo basic training when they start their role. Additional training and support will be tailored to the individual

The trail was established in 2018 to celebrate Telford’s 50th anniversary.

Since then, it has been well used for recreation, charity events and ultra and relay events. There is a guidebook, this generates an income which is used to support the trail.  The state of the trail is monitored by a panel of champions who look after set stages. 

Any problems they find are either dealt with by them, by members of the committee or referred to Telford and Wrekin Council.

In 2023 the group applied for a grant to establish and waymark 23 short circular Coronation Walks throughout the Borough. Work on these is progressing well.

The group runs a website a Facebook page and holds occasional events.

The group is looking for new blood on the committee. Ideally they would like for a new secretary (a minutes secretary would be a help), possibly a new chair (although the current secretary is happy to take this if a new secretary can be found), but new people on the committee would be welcome.

The time commitment varies tremendously so flexibility is another key asset.

The committee meets about 8 times a year, in the early evenings, by Zoom.

The chair chairs these meetings and takes a lead in all the major decisions of the group.

The current secretary mainly deals with any incoming emails, prepares agendas and minutes, looks after the website , issues certificates on request to those completing the trail, administers  the annual Relay Challenge, represents the group on the Local Access Forum,  sends occasional emails to the  Mail chimp list  of members  and  is one of the Facebook admins.

With a new secretary, some of these tasks could be delegated to others on the committee.  .

Could you accompany someone to a new activity? If the answer is YES, then you could be a 'Buddy' and we would really like to hear from you!

As a Buddy you could:

Help someone who feels isolated and alone to participate in local activities, make new friends and get more active.

Provide support that enables someone to take that crucial first step to take part in something new.

Offer encouragement and motivation to get someone involved in the local community, thereby reducing isolation and helping to boost their confidence and self-esteem.

Many of us would like to be more active but the idea of turning up at an activity such as an exercise class on our own can be very daunting.

As a Community Fundraising Volunteer, you will represent Blood Cancer UK in your local area, organising and creating fundraising opportunities to support life-saving research.

Your role will involve raising awareness of our work by hosting events and encouraging donations from the public.

The role is flexible and varied, allowing you to arrange your own team of volunteers to organise events such as quiz nights, liaise with local businesses, or run activities based on your availability.

You will have the freedom to focus on what you enjoy, use your connections, and fit it around your schedule. Our Regional Managers will support you every step of the way, providing training and all necessary materials to ensure your events are successful.

Please note, you need to be 18 or over for this role. This is an opportunity where you will play an important part in raising funds and spreading awareness in your community.

Organising and hosting your own fundraising events, such as quiz nights, music events, and community gatherings

Participating in local events, like fetes and festivals, selling goods or running games

Applying to host bucket collections at local venues

Encouraging others in your network to volunteer and support your events

Attending and supporting bucket collections in your area

Engaging with the public to raise awareness of Blood Cancer UK’s work and services

Handling donations and ensuring funds are paid in either online, at Barclays Bank, or at a local post office

Completing risk assessments for your fundraising activities with the support of your Volunteer Manager
