Volunteer Telford

The Telford Repair café is a volunteer organisation protecting and safeguarding the environment for the public benefit through the promotion of repair and re-use of products as a means of preventing and minimising waste. 

We currently move around community sites in Telford offering the opportunity for people to come along with items for repair and for our volunteers to understand if or how they can be repaired often leading to a repair there and then.

We have many volunteer opportunities that only take up 3-4 hours a month, providing a chance to make a real difference to communities and the environment.  

We are looking for volunteers with repair skills whether in sewing, electrical, IT or just someone who likes to be challenged by a need for something to work or be functional again. 

Alternatively you might be someone wanting to develop your skills through watching and being mentored by other volunteer repairers.     

We are also looking for people that can give a few hours a month to admin, registration, volunteer support or marketing all of these roles being valuable to the future success of the Telford Repair Cafe.

Read Easy Telford and Shropshire East is affiliated to Read Easy UK, a national charity that helps adults learn to read and which has nearly 60 groups across England.

Read Easy Telford & Wrekin was established in 2019 and continues to grow to be a highly impactful local group with an increasing number of Reading Pairs (Reading Coach and Reader).

It is run by a hard-working, dedicated group of team members, all of whom are also volunteers.
The group is now seeking a new Volunteer Coordinator.

The Coordinator is central to the running of each Read Easy group as the first point of contact for adults wanting to learn to read. 

Role:

To support readers from the first time they contact the group, through to their pairing with a coach and on until they complete the Turning Pages scheme.

To also support coaches from their initial application and interview to pairing and coaching sessions.

What do you need to have?

As a Lead Volunteer, you will assist the shop manager in leading, managing and planning for the development of a shop team.

We’ll give you ongoing training and support to get you ready to lead a shift, train your team, and be left in charge.

Best of all you’ll be raising vital funds to support people facing poverty around the world.

Follow important policies around safeguarding, Health and Safety, and trading regulations

Opening, closing and managing the shop in the shop manager’s absence

Volunteering that works for you

Volunteering can be very flexible to suit you. Training to be a Lead Volunteer can take anything from a few weeks to several months – everyone goes at the pace that’s right for them.

If you’re not sure about this role but want to start as a standard volunteer, get in touch and we will find something right for you. By volunteering for a few hours a week, you will meet new people and have some fun for a good cause.

Our donated furniture shop in Wellington provides a service for people who want to dispose of unwanted furniture, and for those people who want to buy good quality furniture at a reasonable price.  

They also provide the charity with an income that allows us to continue to provide much needed services for local older people.

We are looking for warehouse/van driver assistants to work in a team of three with our van driver to pick up furniture donations and deliver items that have been purchased from the shop.
