Opportunity Description
Purpose of the role:
To support families by providing practical and emotional support alongside Family Hubs across Telford & Wrekin.
The role focuses on building positive, trusting relationships with families and working alongside them to develop confidence, strengthen skills, and achieve their goals.
Volunteers act as a supportive and consistent presence, helping families to access services, navigate challenges, and make positive changes that improve their overall wellbeing and outcomes.
Volunteer Responsibilities:
Attend an initial meeting with the family and their allocated practitioner to agree on the support plan.
Meet regularly with the family (typically 2–4 hours per week) to build trust and offer practical and emotional support.
Help families develop skills and confidence to achieve their goals, such as parenting skills, household management, and accessing community resources.
Provide guidance on navigating services and systems, including education, healthcare, and social services.
Maintain regular contact with the family’s practitioner and Volunteer Coordinator to ensure coordinated support.
Complete Volunteer Session Summaries
Attend supervision and training sessions.
Offer a listening ear and empathetic support during challenging times.
Encourage and empower families to take positive steps toward their goals.
Time Commitment:
Between 2–4 hours per week
Location:
Community-based across Telford & Wrekin. Volunteers are matched with families or service users within their preferred area where possible.
Training:
All volunteers receive safeguarding and role-specific training. Additional shadowing and ongoing development opportunities are provided. Volunteers are matched with families or service users based on shared interests and needs, ensuring a meaningful and impactful relationship.
Supervision:
You will be supported by the Volunteer Coordinator and Family Hubs Practitioner with regular catchups,1:1 supervisions, and group supervisions with other Family Hubs Volunteers.
Enhanced DBS is required for all roles.
Requirements
A caring, enthusiastic, and adaptable approach.
Strong listening and communication skills.
Creativity and sensitivity when working with children and families.
Willingness to travel to agreed locations. Driving ability is helpful but not essential.
Capability to operate a phone.
No prior experience is necessary. Training and shadowing are provided.
